Grant Winners Announced!

We had over 75 nonprofit organizations apply for a financial grant this year! Denver is so lucky to have these amazing organizations who help thousands of children and youth every year. This year, the YouthBoard spent over 160 hours vetting the organizations (that's as much as having one full-time employee work for over a month!)

Without further adieu, the YouthBoard is proud to announce the winners of this year's grants (totalling $10,000)!

Why This Matters

Charities are in Need:

  • Two-thirds of charities saw drops in charitable giving in 2008.1 And 2010 will most likely be worse 2 - they need help from an untapped source.
  • There are over one million charitable organizations in the United States.3 And over 400 youth-serving nonprofits in Denver.4
  • Charitable giving accounted for 2.2% of GDP - it’s an important part of our economy!1

Corporations Give:

  • Corporate foundations gave $4.2 billion in 2006.2
  • Corporate giving, including grants from corporate foundations, increased substantially by 18.5 percent, to $13.8 billion.5

Youth will be Empowered Now and Long into Their Future

  • The nonprofit sector employs 10.2 million people, accounting for 6.9% of the total U.S workforce.6
  • More than half a million new nonprofit leaders will be needed over the next decade.7
  • The Positive Youth Development model, which YouthRoots is grounded in, has shown to correlate with healthy and successful adulthoods.8

This is a win-win-win:

  • The funds raised will positively affect an existing nonprofit while providing youth with the experience of learning and implementing fundraising, leadership, and decision-making skills, all lifelong proficiencies.

What a cool organization you have! Do you provide any type of consulting service to help communities create their own youth council? I work for the National Park Service and am at Grand Canyon National Park this summer. I think a youth group focused on philanthropy would be a great asset for the park's fundraising partner, the Grand Canyon Association.
